For one week in mid-October, Sanibel celebrates the legacy of political cartoonist and father of the duck stamp, Jay Norwood Darling, with nature tours and two days of free family fun at J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge.
Sunday Family Fun Day kicks off the event with live animal presentations, nature crafts, and free hot dogs. The week ends with Saturday’s Conservation Art Day, where Federal Duck Stamp winners make an appearance and nature cartoonists and artists do workshops.
Throughout the week, the refuge offers free birding and biking tours and its concessionaire, Tarpon Bay Explorers, discounts its kayaking, boating, and other recreational tours and rentals.
