Established in 1975, De Appel Arts Centre is a contemporary arts centre which aims to show what is new and important in modern art. The organisation has had multiple locations over the years, but is now settled on the Prins Hendrikkade.
The centre has a focus on visual arts, but has a mix of activities and work to see — including exhibitions, lectures, film screenings, and performances. The organisation also has an impressive library (open limited days/hours) and archive (by appointment). “De Appel has maintained a research and reference library since 1975. The library contains about 10,000 titles and like the archive, it has strong links with the history of de Appel, the artists who exhibited there and the Curatorial Programme. The art collection was built up largely from gifts of artists or consists remains of artists’ projects.” – De Appel
Inside the building there is also a small shop and restaurant.
