By the intersection of Lincoln and Lake Streets, head towards the water and find the Crescent Harbor informational plaque to start a waterfront walk through Sitka’s nature, fishing culture and history. Be sure to look closely in the shallow harbor for sea stars, herring eggs, bald eagles, and other fauna. Past the playground, there’s a short detour leading to a lookout point that extends past the harbor and allows for a good view of Mt. Edgecumbe, the local volcano. The walk continues with information about Alaska salmon and other fish, and you can stop in to the Sitka Sound Science Center or continue on to a boardwalk that runs through tree groves along the rocky shore and will lead you right to Sitka National Historical (Totem) Park.
