For a thrilling, and challenging, overnight hike, take the North Kaibab Trail half-way to the river and camp at Cottonwood Campground. Each campsite has a picnic table, pack pole, and metal food storage can required for all food, toiletries, and plastics. Cooling off in the crystal waters of Bright Angel Creek is encouraged. The 6.8-mile route drops 2,800 feet from fir-aspen forest on a well-maintained trail through Roaring Springs Canyon. Reach the springs at 4.7-miles. Water and pit toilets available May-Oct. at Supai Tunnel 1.7 miles from the rim trailhead and at the campground, but best check with a ranger to insure the tap is on.
