Costa Smeralda, Emerald Coast, is known as the playground of the rich and famous. The area is also known for its beautiful beaches, coves, and coastline. All the beaches in this area are public access so there are no fees.
The pink-granite boulder-strewn coves at Spiaggia del Principe, found and developed by Prince Karim Aga Khan, are known for their stunning clear blue water that is perfect for snorkeling and fish spotting. The beach is a perfect crescent of fine sand enclosing a blue-green bay.
The main resort is Porto Cervo, glamorous and trendy. Surrounded by amazing villas is the heart of the coast, Porto Cervo’s center is like a small cashbah with narrow little streets with white-washed walls, where the world’s top fashion designers open shops and showrooms from Easter to mid-September. Enjoy an ice cream or aperitvo outdoors in the Piazzetta delle Chiacchiere or in the Sottopiazza, overlooking the gorgeous clear crystal waters of the bay and the old yachting marina. There’s a nice beach right in town and this is a good area for boating.
