Coastal Discovery Museum is located at historic Honey Horn, a scenic 68-acre property featuring trails, gardens, live oak trees and a butterfly enclosure.
Tours and cruises are offered five days a week with a dozen different programs led by museum curators and trained volunteers who enjoy showcasing the history and ecology of the region.
Guided nature tours are a choice of a beach walk or a Pinckney Island walking tour. A history tour includes the forts of Port Royal and Mitchelville. The Hilton Head Island Trolley Tour also reviews the historical sites and stops for a shopping visit in Sea Pines. A two-hour guided kayak tour travels through the pristine and calm salt marsh areas of Jarvis Creek where shellfish grounds for oysters and wading shore birds can be seen. A dolphin and nature cruise also is offered.
Rates are reasonable, and the knowledgeable guides and availability of transportation make the tours well worth the fees.
