You wouldn’t expect to find dozens of classic cars that show a 100 years of auto history in southwestern Colorado, but the Auto Museum at the Gateway Canyons Resort & Spa is outstanding. Classic cars are a hobby for John Hendricks, founder of Discovery Communications, which owned the Discovery channel and Animal Planet. When he created the environmentally responsible (and luxe) Gateway Canyons Resort, it was a natural place to park his classic cars.

Inside the museum you find everything from a 1906 Cadillac Model H Coupe to the one-of-a-kind 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 concept car.
(He paid $3.25 million for it in an auction.) It’s set on a revolving platform so you can see all sides.

It’s an great stop on the Unaweep/Tabeguache Scenic and Historic Byway, and an easy  drive from Grand Junction.
