Burlington’s City Market, Onion River Co-Op has been a local institution for more than 40 years. The member-owned store offers member discounts, as well as additional discounts for those who volunteer – either at the store itself or with one of its many partner organizations.
They offer a wide variety of locally grown and Vermont-made products, and take pride in supporting the local economy and community. While they have a great organic selection, they do sell conventional produce as well. They also have an excellent selection of Vermont cheese and locally brewed beer.
In addition to the market, they offer a lot of prepared foods – their deli will whip you up a tasty sandwich, and their hot bar features an ever-changing mix of healthy (often vegan and gluten free) dishes. There’s a small dining area in the front of the store, as well as several outdoor tables which are often filled on nice days. If you stop by for breakfast, make sure to try a Montreal-style bagel from the local Myer’s bagel shop.
The co-op also offers cooking classes and other activities – check their website for the latest updates.
