The Church Street Marketplace is a four-block pedestrian street lined with shops and restaurants – both local stores and national chains – in the heart of downtown Burlington. Inspired by the main shopping district in Copenhagen, Denmark, any visit to Burlington should include some time here, whether for window shopping, actual shopping, eating at an outdoor restaurant, watching a street performer, or just doing some people watching.
Almost all the restaurants and bars have some kind of outdoor seating area, great for grabbing a meal or a drink and watching life go by. For shopper’s there’s an excellent selection of outdoor gear stores, including Patagonia, the North Face (both just off Church Street), and the locally owned Outdoor Gear Exchange. Church Street is also the main hub for night life in Burlington, from small dive bars attracting mainly a college crowd to traditional Irish pubs. And, of course, a visit to Burlington wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Ben and Jerry’s to try their latest flavor.
