The Christmas market Altkötzschenbroda is very comfortable, compared to the tourist-flooded Striezelmarkt in nearby Dresden. But the offers are nonetheless unbeatably good – both for those who want to buy wool hats against the sudden cold air and for those who expect something different in music and entertainment (and, of course, especially for those who like to drink good mulled wine). There is a reason for the latter: many winegrowers have their wineries in Radebeul!
What distinguishes this Christmas market from many others – in addition to its homely atmosphere – is that there is not just mulled wine and bratwurst. Altkötzschenbroda offers a very nice cultural program, with theatre groups, traditional live music and handicrafts. The brand name for this market reflects all this: Lichterglanz und Budenzauber (bright lights and booth magic).
By the way: Don’t be disappointed if you can not pronounce Altkötzschenbroda – many locals can not. They avoid the collision of the many consonants tzsch by just saying they’re going to Altkö.
