One of the most photographed spots on the Cape, Chatham Fish Pier is where Chatham’s fishermen bring their catch. The fishermen return sometime between 1 and 4 pm — the best time to catch the catch coming in. Get a bird’s-eye view of the proceedings from the pier’s observation deck. You’ll also spy beach houses on Nauset and North Beaches.
When the boats arrive, so do flocks of hungry gulls and seals, hoping for a piece of the action.
While you’re waiting for the boats, the Fisherman’s Monument invites contemplation of the hard life they choose, even in the face of a sometimes unforgiving sea. Mounting regulatory pressures reflect dwindling harvests, making an already hard — and, for many, rewarding — life ever more challenging.
Pick up fresh caught seafood for dinner at the market or make a selection for take- out from the menu.
