Charlotte’s Rib fired up its smoker in St. Louis in 1977 and by 1981 had walked away as the Grand Champion of the American Royal Barbecue Contest in Kansas City.
You’ll see that award on the walls here, along with one for the Best Cole Slaw in the early days of the at the American Royal. The Jack Daniel’s Invitational gave them a second place trophy in 2008 in the Cook’s Choice category.
The restaurant is named for Charlotte Peters, a local “Oprah-style” television personality who hosted a show on KSD and KTV in St. Louis from the 1947 to 1971. Charlotte’s Rib is now operated by her granddaughter Lisa and her husband.
