As you walk through the Cours Salaya you will notice this splendid Baroque church, which is arguably one of the best in Nice. Moreover, the Miséricorde Chapel occupies a prime position in the Old Town. In addition, it stands close to the Opera de Nice and the Cathédrale Ste-Réparate.
Built between 1747 and 1770 by Bernardo Vittone to the design of the Italian Priest Guarini in the Baroque style, this elegant building has an elliptical nave and semi-circular side chapels distinguishing it completely from the straight lines of previous religious buildings.
The beautifully decorated interior, with some Bistolfi murals and two Retables,* consequently led to its designation as a National Monument. Nowadays, it is in the care of the religious order of the Black Penitants.
