This backyard junk sculpture almost got closed down back in 2010, but a fresh new permit saved the day and now the Cathedral of Junk is back at work and doing its part to Keep Austin Weird. Climb around, snap pictures, and behold the wonder of this ad-hoc structure made from a mishmash of materials. You’ll recognize hubcaps, bicycle parts, street signs and old TVs among the structural foundation, with decorations such as glass bottles, dolls heads and small appliances.
It’s free to the public, but hours vary, depending on when the artist is home. Since it’s a little bit of a schlep (it’s in far south Austin) we recommend calling first to make sure you’ll be able to get in.
