One of the most iconic red rock landmarks in Sedona, Cathedral Rock is located in the Coconino National Forest further north of the Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte formations and west of 179 off Back O’ the Beyond Road. The hike is fairly short, 1.5 miles round trip; however, it’s also fairly steep and bikes and horses are not allowed on the trail. Take your time and you’ll find yourself in the gaps or saddles of the massive red rock formation. It’s nice in the shade of the spires, but it’s a hot hike up. Especially in summer, the sun makes even short hikes more difficult.
Cathedral Rock is also near one of the area’s four vortexes: Red Rock Crossing/Cathedral Rock. To get there from the parking lot off Back O’ the Beyond Road, follow the creek bed to the center of the red rock formation; experts say you’ll feel the energy.
