Located about 25 minutes from Burlington, the Catamount Outdoor Family Center is a 500-acre recreation area and great place to head to enjoy the outdoors year round. In the summer, mountain biking is the main attraction: the Center has over 20 miles of trails for all abilities and ages, and offers bike rental for kids and adults. Catamount also offers full and half-day camps for kids to learn how to mountain bike. Beginner classes range from half-day sessions for 6 and 7 year olds to a full-day session for 13-16 year olds. For those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground, there are numerous hiking trails throughout the property.
In the winter, Catamount’s main attraction is cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, and they recently introduced fat-bike rentals. The well-marked trail network winds through open fields and woods – and there’s a lighted loop for night skiing and snowshoeing. There’s also a groomed sledding hill – just be sure to bring your own sled. If you want a longer stay, there’s a bed and breakfast on the grounds, set in an historic house built by the fist governor of Vermont in 1796.
