Castlewood State Park

A Great Place on a Hot Summer Day

Years ago, the people of St. Louis took a train each weekend all the long way out to the area that is now Castlewood State Park to enjoy the beauty of the Meramec River Valley.

Today, it’s a quick drive west on I-44 and you don’t even feel like you’ve left the city until you’re enveloped by the richness of these heavily wooded and scenic 1800 acres.

There’s great mountain biking and hiking trails along the river, and a beautiful sandbar for wading and splashing on a hot St. Louis summer day.

The Meramec is a great river for canoeing and kayaking.
