Back in the old days, corner shops doubled as bars – they were called Abacerias. Casa Morales is one of just a handful that remain and it’s just wonderfully atmospheric.
The old shop bar is on a street corner with lovely old wooden shelves behind the bar and tiles on the walls. The old wine cellar next door doubles as a slightly larger space where you can sit down at small tables and enjoy the excellent tapas and wine.
Here you’ll see the tapas menus chalked up on the side of the huge old wine vats. It’s another of my favorites and there’s also a menu in English. Despite being close to the catherdal, it rarely gets busy with tourists. Try the montaditos de lomo al amontillado – sandwiches of sherried pork.
