Carousel Gardens

New Orleans' historic amusement park

The Carousel Gardens sits hiding among City Park’s ancient live oaks. The amusement park packs in plenty of fun for a fraction of the cost of larger venues. The 17 rides include classic favorites such as bumper cars, tilt a whirl, and a wacky shack. There’s also a ferris wheel and a ladybug roller coaster. The park is named for the Flying Horses carousel. Built in 1906, it is one of the oldest hand painted carousels in America. You can also take a 15-minute train ride through two miles of the surrounding area.  For smaller visitors, the Storyland section has 26 storybook sculptures bringing some of your favorite fairy tales to life. Take a ride on Captain Hook’s pirate ship or play around with the Three Little Pigs (and look out for the Big Bad Wolf!) No matter what your age, the Carousel Gardens provides fun for the whole family right in the middle of the city.
