Cape Byron Walking Track

A scenic coastal walk to the eastern tip of Australia

This iconic two-hour (3.7-kilometre) walk is one of the best, and most scenic, ways to introduce yourself to Byron Bay’s unique location – without having to hustle for parking at the lighthouse.

A truly coastal track, it offers a sea eagle’s view of pristine beaches, surfers and, in winter, migrating whales, no matter how far you choose to walk or run (there are gym-stops as well as information boards with tips for young naturalists en route).

When you reach Cape Byron, mainland Australia’s most easterly point, take a lighthouse tour (these run 10am-3pm daily, payment by gold coin donation). Or just stand with the wind in your hair and gaze out at the ocean, looking down on Tallow Beach to the south, out to Mount Warning (Wollumbin) to the north at the green, green hinterland behind Byron.
