The names of many of those buried here are now reflected in the streets, the convention centers, or neighborhoods of St. Louis. Soulard, Lucas & Hunt, Chouteau, Cervantes.
But here are the remains of those who helped define freedom for us all – Dred Scott, General William Sherman; those who contributed to the quality of our lives – Tennessee Williams, Kate Chopin, Charles Eames.
Among the former St. Louis Cardinals interred here are James Burke, Robert Byrne, Frank Crespi and Art Hoelskoetter.
Here lie religious and political leaders, baseball players, formers slaves, Native Americans, pioneers, entrepreneurs and plain ordinary folk.
