Café Lotus is an Ubud icon, opened more than thirty years ago. In a tranquil setting dominated by a large Lotus pond and bordered by ancient magnolia trees, some seriously delicious food is served.
A highlight of the lunch menu is the Makanan Ringan which is described as a local “tapas”. It consists of six different Balinese staples including Lemper (chicken & sticky rice), Sambal Udang (Chilli prawns), Pepes Ikan (fish cooked in banana leaves), Tumis Terung (sautéed eggplant), Tahu Bergedel (fried tofu cakes) and Rujak (pickled fruit, Bali style).
One of Ubud’s main temple complexes, Pura Taman Kemuda Saraswati, is also located onsite and adds something extra to the atmosphere. If you time it right, you may even witness a temple ceremony in progress.
