Oklahoma got a real treasure when native Oklahoman Byron Berline returned to the state after a busy music career – playing with well-known bands live, in recording and on movie sound tracks. The three-time National Fiddle Champion started Guthrie’s annual International Bluegrass Festival and opened the Double Stop Fiddle Shop which carries instruments and provides music lessons. Attached to the shop – up a steep set of stairs – is the Music Hall.

You’ll have to go far to hear better bluegrass, country or swing and the small venue is usually packed with fans. Regulars have cushions on their chairs and woe betide the casual visitor who sits on one of these! The crowds are fun and during intermission, gather in an adjoining room to buy a piece of pie or other dessert and a drink before going back for a second helping of great music.
