The small town of Bürglen, a short hop by bus from either Flüelen or Altdorf at the southern end of Lake Uri, is a nifty spot for fans of the William Tell story.
You’ll find the Tell Museum (the holder of an extensive collection of objects and documents relating to Tell) on Klausenstrasse, with the 1582 Tell Chapel nearby, which is believed to stand on the site of Tell’s original home and features the oldest Tell-related frescoes. The Tell Fountain is a pleasingly naive depiction of Tell with a child by sculptor Josef Benedikt Curiger.
