For some of the very best ice cream in Hawaii, you have to go to Bubbies. A mainstay in the islands for over 27 years, Bubbies produces premium ice cream and gourmet ice cream-based desserts. They specialize in mochi ice cream—my absolute favorite—and offer up nearly 20 flavors of those little mouth-watering marvels. Try the Li Hing Mango, Green Tea,and Lychee for starters. You can also order a slice of one of their sinfully good ice cream cakes.
Fair warning: there are so many options to choose from that it’s not uncommon to embark upon an internal battle. One second the minty Hard-Headed Woman (yes, that’s the name of a dessert!) demands your attention, and then the Lost in the Light’s smooth chocolate and Bailey’s Irish cream ice cream with raspberry purée steals it. And then just when you think you know what you’re going to order, the person in front you orders a dozen of the mochi ice cream, and they look so delectable that you’re suddenly further from making up your mind than you were when you walked in the door. You’re torn—it’s okay, I’ve been there. Just close your eyes and point, and I promise you that whatever your finger’s chosen will be delish.
