The Broadmoor is the longest running AAA Five Diamond, Forbes (formerly Mobil) Five Star resort in the United States, and every award won is well deserved. (There could be 20 events going on and you’re still treated as if you’re the only one there.)
You don’t have to be guest, to enjoy a meal in one of the restaurants or play a round of golf. The Broadmoor has three world-class golf courses (all putts break away from the Will Rodgers shrine on the mountain), a huge pool, a tennis center and an incredible spa.
The restaurants range from the casual Golden Bee an Irish pub where waitpersons skillfully flip sticky-back cloth bumble bees onto your shirt or jacket, to the contemporary local’s favorite Summit. The posh Penrose Room is expensive and men are required to wear jackets, but the Chef’s Tasting Menu with paired wines will never be forgotten. (We’ve enjoyed this experience a few times and the meals may be among the best we’ve ever eaten.) You can even dance between courses.
If you can spend a night ask for a South Tower room with a lake view balcony, or grab a group of friends and spring for one of The Cottages with their comfy, large living rooms. The Broadmoor is expensive in the summertime, but ask about the packages and specials that pop up year around and are very reasonable during the fall, winter and spring. Special off-season weekend packages range from jazz to culinary adventures.
