If you’re travelling by train or bus you’ll probably find
yourself at the Britomart Transport Centre at some point, but the real
reason to venture down this way is to sample some of the best fashion shopping and
dining in the city.
Not so long ago this area housed a dilapidated bus station
and multi-storey car park. The whole area was slated for demolition and
multiple office blacks were planned. Sense prevailed and the four- and
five-storey brick buildings have been stylishly repurposed. Check out the chic
boutiques of top New Zealand labels such as Juliette Hogan, Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester, Trelise Cooper, World
and Zambesi. Several also have shops in Ponsonby, the other
concentration of shops selling high end labels.
You could easily spend your entire Auckland visit dining in
Britomart and never repeating yourself. There are too many excellent places to
list her, but consider lunch or dinner at Ortolana.
