A dozen or so galleries showcase the work of several dozen artists including the noted Jacob Preston’s working pottery studio and the Pluff Mudd Art Studio which features painting, photography, pottery, glass, jewelry, wood carving and turning, fiber and metal art by a growing group of talented artists.
The term pluff mud is taken from the name of the dark squishy soil which is found in the marsh and on the banks of the nearby May River.
The historic downtown is a walking district with inviting displays, sales and working artists easy to enjoy daily. The stroll is free, and the cost of art spans a wide range.
The annual Arts and Seafood Festival is an ideal time to visit the town when dozens of additional regional artists are exhibiting.
