People visit Byron for all sorts of reasons. One of them is Bluesfest, Byron’s annual blues & roots music festival that has been going, and growing, since it was first held in 1990.
It’s now a 5-day extravaganza held over the Easter long weekend (usually March/April, but see the website for exact dates) featuring up to 200 performances by local and international artists – past performers have included Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, James Brown and Angelique Kidjo.
There are other musical reasons to visit Byron, of course, apart from the regular live music at local venues such as The Great Northern Hotel, The Railway Hotel and The Beach Hotel.
They include Splendour in the Grass, held every July; Mullum Music Festival in Mullumbimby, just inland from Byron, every November; and the Falls Festival Byron Bay, held over New Year’s Eve.
