Huge landmark souk, with carpets galore

Sharjah’s most famous landmark, the eye-catching Blue Souk (or Central Market, as it’s officially known) lies around a kilometre west of the city centre along the Corniche, occupying an eye-catching pair of large modern buildings topped with a dozen or so wind towers and plastered all over with colourful blue tiling.

The souk is best known for its carpet shops, which stock a vast range of Persian and other rugs at prices which are amongst the cheapest in the UAE. If you’re after handicrafts, however, Souq Al Arsah in the Heritage Area has a better selection.
