This is the place to head to if you are a motorcycle aficionado who likes camping and wants to stay in the middle of a national forest alongside a river bank. Sound like a little bit of heaven? It is.
First of all, you will find your kind of people here: people who think getting on a motorcycle is a great way to get around. So hop on your bike and get on over here.
The set up here is for motorcyclists. Phil Johnson, who owns the place, says it has been set up for motorcycles only since 1984. That’s when he and his wife stumbled upon the site after they set out on a motorcycle trip of their own. They were going to retire … ha! Well, as they say the rest is history.
What they offer the motorcyclist is a place to be welcomed and not have to explain the penchant for being on a bike.
For starters, you are only six miles north of the Blue Ridge Parkway between Waynesville and Brevard, both towns well worth the ride to visit. And you are in the midst of the Pisgah National Forest. And did we tell you, a river runs through it. How could we forget about the Pigeon River and the trout fishing on site.
The campground offers cabins, tent camping, hot showers, charcoal grills, a lunge with wifi access and hot meals cooked to order if you don’t feel like doing your own open-fire cooking.
And if you don’t feel like camping, there are 18 furnished and heated cabins … with motorcycle parking outside your door.
If you are on a bike and heading through Western North Carolina, this campground could make a terrific home base for your trip.
