With the best Pacific Island collections in all the world, you should definitely spend a few hours in the Bishop Museum. The main building houses several galleries of Hawaiian artifacts from ancient stone tools, native wood spears, and religious items to more modern items including royal carriages, and a life-size display of a blue whale. Not to be missed is the feather mask of the war god Kukailimoku, the feather capes worn by ancient Hawaiian chiefs, and numerous items that belonged to the once Kings and Queens of Hawai‘i. Also worth your time is the new science wing, which has a hands-on exhibit for children as well as an erupting volcano demonstration.
