One of the best ways to get around Sanibel – especially in season when traffic can crawl – is on two wheels.
A couple of outfitters rent bikes if you don’t want to bring your own. More than 20 miles of shared-use paths take you to beaches, shops, restaurants, and the “conservation corridor” along Sanibel-Captiva Road where SCCF, CROW, and “Ding” Darling Refuge live. (Extend your ride with a trip through “Ding.”) The Rabbit Road segment often yields glimpses of marsh rabbits and gators.
The newest section winds through a green setting and along Dunlop Road to the library, city hall, and Sanibel Farmer’s Market (in season). A welcome center gazebo on Periwinkle Way provides maps and more information on the path and the island.
