Humboldt County’s only full-service resort is set in a historic building just south of Garberville. Along the Eel River and adjacent to the Benbow Lake State Recreation Area, this redwood-hugged historic structure has long been an icon of the North Coast.
Dignitaries and Hollywood celebrities (including Clark Gable and Eleanor Roosevelt) once flocked to this grand dame. Now, she is completing a facelift to once again make her an attractive option if you aren’t keen on sleeping outdoors.
Since 1926, this resort has granted a peaceful retreat in her historic rooms, or in her ample outdoor space for RVs and campers, offering a caliber of service not found in many places.
Rooms evoke another time, with deep wooden hues, and doors painted by Eva Benbow.
Additional amenities include a fine white-tablecloth restaurant, a golf course, tennis courts, afternoon cocktail reception, bicycles, live entertainment on summer evenings, and spa services.
