The Picasso Museum in Barcelona is more than just a museum. The five large palaces, the oldest dating back to the 13th – century, are home to the museum. The Catalan Gothic style buildings have a massive wall surrounding the courtyard.
Barcelona was home to Picasso in his early and formative years. He kept active links to Barcelona throughout his life. An extensive collection of the world-famous painter’s sketches and work from this time are on display. The museum, which opened in 1963, contains 4,251 pieces in its permanent collection. It includes famous works from 1917 and his Las Meninas (1957) series. You will also see a comprehensive collection of his print work. The Picasso Museum also contains some consistently changing temporary exhibitions.
