The Barbados Museum and Historical Society is housed in the historic St. Ann’s Garrison, an 18th-century military prison. This is a museum with a self-guided tour. You can start with the natural history exhibit. Then there is the human history of the island, through independence and societal history. There is also a home decor exhibit and an exhibit of Bajan military history, an African history gallery, a children’s exhibit, and the history of the sugar industry in Barbados.
There is no air conditioning in the museum, but the displays are well presented and well organized — a good place to spend an afternoon for lovers of history.
