Apsara dance is an integral component of Cambodian culture. More than two centuries old and once confined to the King’s court, it presents themes and stories inspired primarily by the Reamker (the Cambodian version of the Indian classic, the Ramayana) and by the Age of Angkor. The dance was inspired by the Apsara carvings and sculptures of Angkor. Practiced by men and women and taught at school.
