Dotted throughout central Anacortes you will see painted cut-out figures. The people are part of the Anacortes Mural Project, started more than 30 years ago by artist Bill Mitchell.
Mitchell has painted more than 150 murals. They feature Anacortes residents of all different backgrounds… fishermen, mayors, dancers, children, leaders and more. I found a little boy holding a WWII jeep on the Post Office wall. At the museum, once an a Carnegie library, you’ll find Andrew Carnegie, himself, greeting you.
You can pick up a mural map at the Anacortes Visitors Center at Commercial Avenue and Ninth Street.
