Offering well-crafted wine in its lush, mountain-valley location, AmRhein Wine Cellars is a must-visit stop during your exploration of the Roanoke region.
AmRhein Wine Cellars is far from its namesake Rhine River, but very much at home just south of Roanoke. Its sparkling pond and wide green lawn are perfect for the summer’s Friday Nights Under the Stars events.
The tasting room is housed in a red tin building with a gray roof, reminiscent of a (very upscale) farm stand. French doors line the covered patio, and vineyards grow just a few feet away.
Artist Kathleen Lunsford creates the stunning labels for the bottles of Amrhein’s signature Petit Verdot. The same is true for their Traminette made in the German Spatlese style, rich Aglianico, full-bodied Melange blend and others.
The winery welcomes picnics private parties and weddings. Call ahead for group tours of more than 8 people. Parking is available for buses and RVs.
Children are welcome at this family-friendly winery.
Snacks for a light picnic are available.
On your way out, take the roller coaster down the mountain to Valhalla Vineyards by way of Bent Mountain Road (US 221). The the jaw-dropping views will make your day.
