Look closely northeast of the Lincoln Park Conservatory – at the corner of Fullerton and Cannon Drs – and you’ll spy the Caldwell Lily Pool, an enchanted, hidden garden. Famed landscape architect Jens Jenson designed it in 1938 using the Prairie style, native plants, and stonework that resembles the stratified canyons of the Wisconsin Dells. Today the natural area is designated a National Historic Landmark and is an important stopover for migrating birds, as well as home to turtles and dragonflies. It’s a serene place to escape the Lincoln Park crowds. Docents lead free, half-hour tours on various weekends.
