A sunny Ascona three-star winner is the Albergo Carcani, with a prime spot on chic Piazza Motta and dreamy lakeside views.
The entire hotel received an interior revamp from Carlo Rampazzi in 2012, and there are 29 rooms, with those at the front giving full lake vistas. Each floor has its own color scheme (orange, blue, citrus yellow) and every room is individually named. The exterior retains a typically Italian heritage feel, in accordance with the piazza’s existing aesthetic.
The dining area’s cheery appeal relies on two things: lake views and innovative tasting plates (known as assaggi), which can be sampled and shared, much like tapas. Local wines, such as the rare white Merlot, can be enjoyed as part of the meal or a pre-dinner apéro. The terrace is a charming spot for a morning or afternoon coffee.
Service at the hotel is uniformly excellent: ask staff for tips about the area or any help with bookings.
