Afton Mountain Vineyards offers stunning mountain views and world-class wines in a venue that will make you want to linger.
This winery has been around for at least 30 years. As a result, many of the wines are produced from old-growth vines. In any case, the quality of the Afton Mountain wine is exceptional.
At the end of your long climb to the top of Afton Mountain, you will find a group of Mediterranean-style winery buildings that exude a kind of apre-ski vibe. This is in part because of the 360 degree mountain view that makes this winery venue one of the most beautiful in Central Virginia.
Inside, it’s as if you’ve entered a sumptuous living room, with high, beamed ceilings, elaborate chandeliers, and dramatic floor-to-ceiling drapes. And all that BEFORE you take in the spectacular, mountain-top view from the hillside deck.
You should definitely belly up to the bar for a tasting. Alternately (or in addition), you may feel inclined to purchase a bottle or glass and just sit outside.
Snacks are available for purchase, but picnics are encouraged. The recently-built pavilion provides space to enjoy your food even in cooler or inclement weather.
Buses, campers, or RVs are not allowed without advance permission. Pets are welcome at picnic tables or other outdoor spaces.
Groups: All parties of 6 or more must call ahead for a pre-paid reservation. Small group tastings are held in the Sunroom, which overlooks the vineyard. $10 per person. The tasting room will not accommodate groups larger than 15. The last group tasting is at 1PM.
Four cabins are available for rental on the property. Each of the 2 bedroom, 2 bath cabins are intended for a maximum occupancy of four. All of the cabins offer stunning views. For reservations, visit the Afton Mountain site.
