This eccentric stately home was built as the dream home of novelist Sir Walter Scott. It reflects his romantic vision of Scotland.
Walls bristle with arms and armour and it’s packed with all sorts of historical memorabilia. Among them are Rob Roy’s broadsword; a crucifix of Mary, Queen of Scots; and a lock of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s hair.
Scott’s library of over 9,000 rare books is also impressive.
