Modern Dubai is notoriously unfriendly for pedestrians, but the old city is great for aimless wandering, nowhere more so than along the Creekside in Bur Dubai and Shindagha, with superb views of the old city centre and refreshing waterside breezes – and, best of all, it’s pedestrianized.
Start outside the Diving Village and walk south along the Shindagha waterfront, past the Shindagha Tower, then follow the waterfront walkway as it runs past shops and the Bur Dubai abra station and into the Textile Souk.
Continue through the Textile Souk and down Hindi Lane to emerge by the Grand Mosque, from where you can continue along the Creekside promenade past the back of Bastakiya and beyond. The walk is particularly lovely at dusk. Count on around twenty to thirty minutes from the Diving Village to Bastakiya.
