With such a humble building housing this restaurant, you would never guess it was named the 2012 and 2013 Hale ‘Aina Gold Award winner for “Best Neighborhood Restaurant”. But the moment you taste the food, you’ll know.
The 12th Avenue Grill serves contemporary American cuisine and sources its ingredients from Hawai‘i’s local farms. Organic produce, grass-fed beef, sustainable seafood, and hormone-free chicken are to be expected. Truth be told, whatever you order here—Fresh Catch of the Day to the Grilled Maui Cattle Co. Short Ribs—you can’t go wrong. Another excellent choice is the Grilled Marinated Jidori Chicken Breast with ginger, local honey, tarragon and whole grain mustard marinated with Hamakua mushroom ragout, mashed potatoes, and sautéed organic baby spinach.
And don’t forget to save room for the Flourless Chocolate Cake—it’s a must! This delicacy is whipped up from Valrhona dark chocolate, caramel gelato, and rice crispy chocolate tuille! If there are two or more of you dining together, be sure to also order Lilikoi Mochi Cake to share.
Note: Paid parking is available in the lot located behind the restaurant. And if you’re lucky enough to find street parking, it’s free all day on many side streets and after 6pm on Wai‘alae Avenue (the main drag).
