The Isle of Skye is a microcosm of the Highlands. Most of its many peninsulas have their own distinct feel, there’s a multitude of different lochs and even a mountain range – the Cuillins. These can keep serious climbers occupied for days. For others three good days out are particularly recommended.
But remember to make allowances for poor weather – Skye’s not nicknamed “The Misty Isle” for nothing!
Wander Portree, Skye’s main town for a couple of hours before touring and hiking around the wild geological formations Trotternish peninsula.
Spend a day sightseeing: visit Dunvegan Castle and gardens and the Talisker Distillery.
Take a scenic drive to Elgol and a boat trip to Loch Coruisk, where several good hikes start.
