Scotland’s Highlands: From Glencoe’s Wilds to Argyll’s Oysters

A one-day road-trip between Fort William and Inverary

Save to my Account

This itinerary follows the magnificently winding road through the brooding Glencoe, Scotland’s most famous glen with one of the country’s most scenic stretches of asphalt, to pass over lower hills en-route to the coast were gentler seaside landscapes await around the pretty town of Inveraray.

Morning

From Fort William drive to Glencoe and drop in at the visitor center to learn its history, then drive the beautiful glen with possible stops for hiking such as along The Lost Valley, and on stretches of the West Highland Way along this scenic drive.

Lunch

Options include the romantically set Kingshouse Hotel, but best save yourself for the The Real Food Cafe in the village of Tyndrum.

Afternoon

From Tyndrum drive west past Kilchurn Castle then south to the pretty lochside town of Inveraray, for a short hike to a superb viewpoint above town.

Evening

Inveraray’s George Hotel or The Argyll both offer accommodation and are good places to eat. Look out for local seafood dishes.
