Chicago’s Green Dining Scene

A healthy guide to good eats in Chicago

Chicago locals love to eat and they know the best places for healthy dining. While there are plenty of places to gorge oneself, there are many healthy options for vegetarians, vegans, gluten-free and omnivores alike.

In the Avondale and Logan Square neighborhood, 90 Miles Cuban and Dragon Lady Lounge are prime spots. The former is being scouted out by many food media outlets, and the later is more of a Koren-style treasure.

Wicker Park and Bucktown Dining

Wicker Park and Bucktown certainly don’t have a shortage of eateries, but if you’re looking to go green, Handlebar, CuminNative Foods, Belly Shack, Sultan’s Market, and Bongo Room are all worthy of your taste buds.

Dining in Northside

In the Northside neighborhoods of Chicago you’ll find gems like Ethiopian Diamond, Argyle Street (which is transforming into a pedestrian only area), m. henry, Middle East Bakery, Chicago Diner, Pick Me Up Cafe, Kabuki, Kopi Traveler’s Cafe, and Mixteco. Just by the names you’ll see there is a culturally diverse array of places to eat. Chicago Diner may be the most misleading. It is far from a greasy spoon, and Lady Gaga herself has been spotted eating there.

Chicago Loop and Downtown Dining

Closer to the loop and downtown area find Kramer’s Health Foods (part store, part cafe), Oasis Cafe, OsakaDe Cero Taqueria, and Urban Belly.
