Michigan Road Trips take us away from the urban sprawl of big box stores and chain restaurants on journeys to explore what makes the state so exceptional. Perhaps it’s to a mom and pop restaurant (where mashed potatoes are house-made and cherries for pie are grown next door) or au courant bistros where chefs source cheese from local farms and food producers and what grows in the field or orchards this morning graces the menu at night.

Adventure and History

Our road trips include coastal and heartland hamlets as well as big cities. They include kayaking along fast moving rivers, skiing Michigan mountains, overnighting in 200-year old bed and breakfasts, hitting white sand beaches and touring the state’s many wine and beer trails. Road trips follow in the footsteps of Ernest Hemingway in Northern Michigan, boating the same river that Hiawatha paddled, peering through glass bottom boats at 19th century shipwrecks, visiting coastal villages and cities, island hopping and walking the ramparts of 18th century forts.

Uber Urban

It’s enjoying the urban beat of Michigan’s great cities. Detroit with its amazing revitalized downtown, riverwalk, restored hotels and warehouses now condos and retail, the buzz of burgeoning story lines as more and more becomes part of his great city. Visit the most wonderful museums including one celebrating the Motown Sound and house museums of the great car barons just to name a few. Grand Rapids on the Grand River is a place where one can find a celebration of the arts and, the birth of artisan breweries. The ultimate college town, Ann Arbor, is a city with a beautiful university campus edging the busy and very hip downtown. It’s unique eateries, retail and diverse neighborhoods always offer something new to experience.

Small Towns and Remote Wilderness

A string of beach villages and hamlets line the shore of both West and East Michigan, curving around the tip and following the Upper Peninsula on both northern most coast of Lake Michigan and the southern shore of Lake Superior. Here dense woodlands, Michigan-sized mountains, rivers and waterfalls and near and far remote are all part of the great outdoors perfect for fishing, boating, swimming and snorkeling. Caves are carved from multicolored rocks by the endless pounding of waves and a magnificent bridge connects the lower and upper parts of this great state.
