What's your favorite mode of transportation? Why?

My favorite mode of transportation is by car. Some of our most memorable vacations have been on our road trips from Southern California to Portland where we’ve discovered great little diners, funky little shops, and conversations with our daughters. I love it.

What's the most underrated destination in your opinion?

Hmmm. I would say the most underrated destination that I’ve been to is Morro Bay. It’s definitely not on the Top 10 lists of any guides I’ve seen to California, but there’s something really special about it. I love the misty, laid-back beach vibe there, and all of the fresh seafood restaurants, boutiques and wine bars around there. Just up the road in Cayucos is a little place called Ruddell’s SmokeHouse, which serves up the most delicious fish tacos and sandwiches. The owner is so nice, and I always love going there.

Do you prefer traveling alone or with a companion? Why?

I prefer traveling with my family. Travel is about memories and new experiences, and I always want my husband and two daughters to be there to share it with me.

What is the most important thing you've learned from traveling?

The most important thing I’ve learned from traveling is to ask the locals about their favorite spots to eat, get groceries, or hang out. We always find great places that aren’t in guidebooks or CVB brochures. It’s authentic.
